About Us

Greg began his real estate career in 1990, earned his California Real Estate Broker’s License that same year, and never looked back. Just five years later, he acquired full ownership of Penny Realty, Inc. Armed with an MBA and Broker of Record ever since. With over 35 years of experience, Greg has seen just about everything in San Diego Real Estate---often twice!

Armed with a MBA from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of San Diego, Greg combines business savvy with deep local knowledge.  He also holds Certifications in Luxury Home Marketing and Commercial Investment Real Estate, proving that he is as comfortable managing and selling high-end properties as he is solving the occasional plumbing emergency.

Outside of the office, Greg enjoys spending time and traveling with his ever-growing family (four children and two grandchildren which keep him on his toes), playing tennis, and practicing Martial Arts….because sometimes property management and real estate sales require both diplomacy and “a black belt!”

Shayne Flaherty serves as Vice President of Penny Realty, where she plays a key role in human resources, employee development, corporate accounting, and company culture. With a strong background in education and leadership, Shayne brings a people-focused approach to both team development and the day-to-day operations of the company.

Shayne holds a bachelor's degree in Architectural Design/Engineering with a minor in Pre-Medicine, as well as a Master of Science in Leadership and an Administrative Credential in Leadership. Her passion for teaching and mentoring has been an important part of Penny Realty's commitment to continuous improvement and exceptional service.

Outside of Penny Realty, Shayne's greatest priority is her family. She enjoys spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, attending concerts, staying active, traveling and supporting charitable causes that are important to her.

Mario brings more than 15 years of property management experience to his role as Operations Manager at Penny Realty. His background includes managing both single-family and multifamily properties, with experience overseeing portfolios ranging from approximately 300 to more than 2,000 units.

At Penny Realty, Mario helps oversee day-to-day operations, improve systems and processes, support the property management team, and ensure that issues are addressed efficiently and professionally. His experience gives him a practical understanding of the challenges property owners, residents, and property managers encounter and how strong operational systems can help solve them.

Mario holds a California Real Estate License and has also earned certification through the San Diego Housing Commission. He believes in clear communication, patience, proactive problem solving, and treating people with respect.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, exploring San Diego’s local farmer’s markets, hiking, biking on trails, picnicking at parks, and hitting the range.  Mario is passionate about community engagement, volunteering with organizations, such as the Cub Scouts of America, food banks, assisting donation centers, and being close to God.

James oversees Penny Realty's accounting and financial reporting functions, bringing a strong combination of education, real estate experience, and attention to detail to the role.

He holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in Accounting and has professional experience in real estate accounting and financial management. His background helps ensure that Penny Realty's property owners receive accurate, timely, and easy-to-understand financial information about their investments.

James also holds a California Real Estate License, giving him an additional understanding of the real estate industry and the financial responsibilities involved in managing rental property.

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring everything San Diego has to offer.

Joy brings extensive property management experience and a strong commitment to protecting the interests of Penny Realty's property owners. Over the course of her career, she has managed more than 1,000 residential properties and developed broad expertise in leasing, resident relations, maintenance coordination, rent collection, and California landlord-tenant law.

As an Executive Property Manager, Joy is known for her ability to manage large portfolios while maintaining responsive, personal communication with property owners. She understands that every rental property is an important investment and works closely with owners to maximize performance, address issues proactively, and make well-informed management decisions.

Joy holds a California Real Estate Broker's License and brings both experience and practical knowledge to the challenges that arise in property management.

Outside of work, Joy enjoys spending time with her family and friends and taking advantage of the San Diego lifestyle.

With over a decade of hands-on experience in Property Management, Emily Young brings deep expertise and dedication to her role at Penny Realty.  Her extensive background spans residential housing, privatized communities, and commercial real estate, giving her a well-rounded and strategic approach to managing diverse portfolios.

Having lived throughout the United States and internationally, Emily approaches her work with a global perspective and a flexible, people-centered mindset, as she loves multi-cultural diversity, exploring different traditions, immersing in lively music and dance from around the world.  Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending weekends with her husband and two sons, exploring the city, and discovering new restaurants, visiting local parks, and going on bike rides together.  

Emily is an active volunteer, dedicating time to her older son’s Boy Scout Troop and ROTC Program.  She also supports her younger son at Autism-related therapies and events.   Emily cheers on her husband’s sumo wrestling tournaments.  Her commitment to family and community reflects the same care and dedication that she brings to her professional work with her Owners, Residents, and Vendors.

Hunter manages with a broad and strategic understanding of the vacation rental market, long-term rentals, advanced pricing structures, in-house transaction coordination, and system automations.  He oversees the complete set-up and optimization of the booking system, pricing models, maintenance coordination, and automation workflows. Hunter’s strengths contribute to his hands-on leadership style, along with a deep understanding of applicable laws.  

Hunter is so passionate about the real estate industry and its trends with approximately a decade of experience.  He finds deep fulfillment in creating smooth, successful experiences for both Property Owners and Guests alike. Outside of work, Hunter enjoys baking artisan gourmet breads, playing beach volleyball, and spending quality time with his loving wife.

Carson brings experience managing single-family homes, condos, and multifamily properties, with particular strengths in leasing, resident relations, organization, and problem solving. He began his property management career while attending college, working as a Property Assistant for an on-campus apartment community.

Known for his calm demeanor, resourcefulness, and ability to manage multiple priorities, Carson takes pride in providing responsive service to both property owners and residents. He earned his bachelor's degree in Business from San Diego State University

Amanda supports Penny Realty's property management team with resident communication, lease administration, maintenance coordination, inspections, and the many day-to-day details required to keep rental properties operating smoothly.

A graduate of Cal State San Marcos. Amanda combines strong organizational skills with a friendly and responsive approach to customer service. She works closely with property managers, owners, residents, and vendors to help resolve issues efficiently and keep everyone informed throughout the process.

Amanda takes pride in being dependable, detail-oriented, and willing to step in wherever needed to support Penny Realty's owners and residents.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending time with family and friends, staying active, and spending time with her German Shepherd.

Rebekah serves as Penny Realty's Office Administrative Manager and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, organized, and responsive experience for owners, residents, vendors, and visitors.

Her professional background includes extensive experience in hospitality and customer service, where she developed a strong understanding of communication, organization, and relationship building. She brings those skills to Penny Realty every day, helping coordinate office operations and supporting the property management team behind the scenes.

Rebekah takes pride in providing thoughtful, attentive service and helping ensure that clients receive the level of care and professionalism they expect from Penny Realty.

Outside of work, Rebekah enjoys spending time with family and friends and taking advantage of San Diego's many activities and restaurants.

Paloma Garcia is the Business Development Manager at Penny Realty, Inc. In her role, Paloma drives the growth of Penny Realty’s management portfolio by cultivating strong relationships with property owners and conducting in depth consultations that reflect the company’s long standing commitment to exceptional service. Known for her professionalism, strategic mindset, and strong communication skills, she ensures every client interaction reflects the integrity and high standards that define Penny Realty’s reputation. With her experience in sales and the customer experience, Paloma brings a unique analytical but friendly and transparent lens to property management—one that strengthens her ability to navigate regulations, understand stakeholder motivations, and communicate complex information with clarity. Her professional background enhances her work in business development, policy awareness and strategic decision making. She collaborates closely with Penny Realty’s leadership and property management teams to maintain a streamlined CRM pipeline, uphold the company’s structured accountability systems, and secure long term partnerships that support both a property owner's and Penny Realty's continued expansion. Outside of work, Paloma enjoys reading every genre of books, dancing, and exploring new restaurants. All passions that fuel her curiosity and connection to the community she serves.

Melina was born and raised in San Diego and brings six years of Vacation Rental and Property Management experience to Penny Realty, along with a genuine passion for creating positive experiences for every guest and client she works with.

She is currently pursuing her California real estate license and is always looking for opportunities to grow, learn, and challenge herself professionally. Ambitious and outgoing, Melina is dedicated to providing exceptional customer service while making every interaction feel welcoming and personalized.

Outside of work, Melina enjoys spending time with animals, hiking, practicing Pilates and yoga, and taking in San Diego's beautiful sunsets.
